He builds the Basilica of Maxentius and Constantine, which is the largest building in the Roman Forum. He is trying to figure out his faith, but didn’t quite understand what he needs to do to pursue this new idea of faith. He is able to improve many things while Emperor and even considered himself as “God’s chosen instrument” as he is bringing the lands back together. “Byzantium” is renamed to Constantinople and is then rebuilt to the “New Rome.” He is able to make the city of Rome beautiful by taxing all the citizens and even making them poor. Again, Constantine and Maximian go into battle and again, it doesn’t end well for Maximian as he drowns and Constantine takes on full power of the Roman Empire, allowing Christianity to become the state religion. He wants to carry the strength of the Lord with him at all times, so before battle he has his army carry around a sign with the Greek letters chi “X” and rho “P” as an abbreviation that meant Christos or Christ. It is said that once he starts to pray to the one true God, he is given a sign saying that he is going to be protected in battle. Rather than sticking to what his time period was known to pray to, he chose to pray to God. He is now the Emperor of the West (Turkey) while Galerius is the Emperor of the East. Constantine is crowned emperor within one year because of his fathers’ unexpected death. He is born into a typical family, his father ends up becoming the Emperor of modern day Turkey- and to do so he must divorce his wife. Constantine is known greatly for one huge accomplishment, he is the first Emperor to welcome the Christian faith. ![]()
